Over the last several years, my liberal friends have become less and less comfortable with utilizing classical debating styles — you know, where one person proposes a theory, explains it thoroughly with facts and figures and then responds to any questions about the theory in a logical, rational way. This article develops a theory on why the vast majority of all liberals are currently atrocious debaters.
My wife and I have been lucky. We have developed many close friendships with lots of people over our lives. Some of these relationships are more recent, but many have lasted 20, 30, or even 40 years. We have over a dozen friends whom we try to stay in close contact with on a regular basis. About half of them are liberal; about half of them are conservative. Virtually no one seems to be dead in the middle anymore.
Recently, a new trend started to become obvious. For my conservative friends, roughly half of all their friends share conservative values, and half are liberal. But our liberal friends tend to have just one or two conservative friends, and they are no longer able to discuss political issues with their conservative friends, since the liberals tend to get too emotional when talking politics.
It is my belief that this inability to discuss political issues is because my liberal friends look only at online sites that share their worldview; they watch only TV news that reinforces their worldview; they discuss politics only with people who share their worldview; and they often look at social media that make them think the liberal view on a topic is the only rational one to have.

It happened again when I refused to agree with the common knowledge around here that Sarah Palin, a veritable neophyte, was the equal of Ronald Reagan, who had a lifetime of amazing achievements under his belt.

It's a much more difficult thing for conservatives to pull off. The entire apparatus of the culture openly and loudly touts the liberal point of view. A conservative cannot escape it. Liberals can live for months and never come into actual contact with a genuine conservative position. This is why they are so shocked when they encounter one, and why they are so ill-prepared for the encounter.
Bottom line, confirmation bias is not even on the same scale for conservatives than it is for liberals. To claim otherwise is to ignore reality.
Exactly. I would caution against using wikipedia for anything but the most cursory and basic information about something. If it has any political implications at all, it's not useful as a source. However, if you are interested in specific information about optics, or the precise melting point of a certain alloy, it can be very useful. Once you understand its limitations, you can use it profitably.
Yes, I agree. Anything political is compromised by their bias.

How Liberals Respond When You Try to Debate Them
Answer: Stomp their feet and call you racist, a nazi.
If you could reason with a liberal there would be no liberals.
If you could reason with a democrat, there would be no democrats.
One of the hardest thing to do in life is trying to reason with a liberal.
To anger a conservative, lie to them.
To anger a liberal, tell them the truth.
Or they get violent.

At a dinner one night, he quoted Carville saying “It’s the economy stupid.” They thought my father was talking about them and they got all bent out of shape. My wife, being in network news tried to explain it, but my in-laws weren’t having anything to do with it.
