Another great medieval mystery series is the Matthew Bartholomew series by Susanna Gregory. Bartholomew is a teacher of Medicine at Michaelhouse, part of the fledgling University of Cambridge. "Brother Michael is believed to be a Benedictine monk with a vast knowledge and love related to intrigue, good food, and politics. Together, Matthew Bartholomew and Brother Michael try to fight against the criminal activities taking place in the city."
This is an excellent series with many interesting recurring characters.
