How did everyone react back then?
AS A CHILD, and living under the flight paths of three major airports, at night I was sure every loud pass over as the BIG ONE.
Every time we hid under our desks during air raid drills, we cried.
Our parents were visibly frightened. There was plenty of muttering about JFK not being up to the stand-off -
and there were quiet celebrations when the Russians backed down.

I wasn’t around when that went down. But remember the angst growing up in the 70s. I mapped out our sewers by age 8. Knew where to go in case of incoming. Still do. :-)
