OK, I read the “botanical” article. Now I gotta throw a “BS” flag. Everything in there is counter to my 8 decades of life experience with spuds. When I was growing up one of my jobs when I got home from school was to peel a potful of spuds for supper. But I figgered out the peels were OK and it’s been at least six decades since I’ve actually peeled one: skins and all, boiled, fried, baked, whatever. And the juice of a raw spud is a great first treatment for a light burn, especially to wash the eyes with. EVERYBODY should have learned that in shop class.
And why did the Irish darn near starve when they didn’t have them?
I’m suspecting the story is another Bill Gates scam to scare us off something so’s he can sell us fake meat?
And I expect I’m in better shape than the guy who’s trying to talk us out of spuds. Certainly in better shape than my regular Quack who is 30 years younger. My three food groups are meat, taters, and veggies and always will be. Maybe legal weed is affecting the output?
“Solanine” is the toxic substance in potatoes, and other members of the genus Solanum such as “Nightshade”.
Personally, I love deep fried potato skins and have never had a problem. Some people are more sensitive than others.
You can put away the “BS” flag and “Bill Gates” paranoia, and look up the facts for yourself using your own sources.
