In the early ‘60s, Marshall McLuhan made the point in “Understanding Media” that it was the artistic types who would see the long-term societal impact of modern technology far more than the inventors, investors, or government types.
The dystopian movies of the 60s-80s touch on some of these dangers, and many were based on dystopian books or short stories.
