Might be a 4” drop used on some taller 4x4 pickups.
My wife’s new ram has to have a 6” drop.
This must be a eastern thing to remove the male stinger part of hitch.
I doubt there are a half dozen pickups in Oklahoma that don’t have one on constantly.
Solution. Don’t crowd the truck.

We use a Dodge 5500 to pull a 20 foot landscaping trailet. The truck is too high to tow the trailer so we use a hitch that drops the ball down 4 inches. The 4 inch drop allows us to open the rear gate. Without it the gate gets stuck in the ground and only opens half way. If we don't use the drop hitch we have to back the trailer wheels up on blocks.

And watch where you are walking ! In Texas the only time there’s no hitch in the receiver is during swapping to a different size.
My main complaint is that the B!t€}{ doesn’t know what she’s talking about.
