Remembering my basic training, I told my son 43 years ago as he was about to enter basic don't quit smoking just yet. It's one of the few small pleasures you'll get. Quit after.

When I came home from BCT in late '66 my Dad offered me a cigarette. When I refused he was surprised and said he had thought I would start smoking in Basic (Like both my parents and virtually every other adult in my life at the time). I never did.
