Wool socks and wool blankets could save your life in a wintertime power outage. And it might be a good idea to map out where the water pipes are, and know how to drain them so they don’t freeze and break. Pipes along exterior walls will freeze first.

True that, especially if you lose power and/or heat
Also, learn from the "Ten Days Texas Freeze"(TDTF) frozen pipes situation,
to open up the cabinet doors underneath kitchen and bathroom sinks to ambient warmer room air.
Moving water will not freeze, so allow faucets to drip slowly like once per second

Invest in tea candles, Sterno heaters, camping lanterns,but be aware of carbon monoxide buildup in the room.
Flashlights are handy, but battery operated headlamps are more useful and versatile, as long as you have a supply of batteries on hand.
