To: Monkey Face; Tax-chick

Chickens are easy to raise, and relatively easy to process — but you have to be ready to adapt to the notion of changing a living thing into meat for your table. That’s a big change for many people.

One helpful hint; when you see how the maturing chickens treat each other, they seem less deserving of the sympathies you might have.

Consider this; you and your merry band of chickens can scratch out an existence in very tough conditions, where you alone would simply starve.

I live within city limits with no yard of my own. Raising even one chicken would be problematical, and possibly grounds for being ousted. I’ll pass on it for a while, thanks!

Yes, we had chickens in Alaska, and I was definitely not friends with any of them. Most of them were much eviller than I was at my tender age. In fact, I had a great satisfactory curiosity in watching their beheading. I knew that Sunday dinner may not only contain chicken but may even produce dumplings, though at that time of my life, I wasn’t sure what part of the chicken the dumpling came from.
