Yes, we had chickens in Alaska, and I was definitely not friends with any of them. Most of them were much eviller than I was at my tender age. In fact, I had a great satisfactory curiosity in watching their beheading. I knew that Sunday dinner may not only contain chicken but may even produce dumplings, though at that time of my life, I wasn’t sure what part of the chicken the dumpling came from.
