My lasting memory of Ground Zero came some months after the attacks; much of the debris had been cleared but the fires still raged below ground. When coming out of the pit there was St. Pauls, a tiny colonial era church bordering Broadway and was then the site where family + loved ones had posted mementos and pictures on the wrought iron fence that surrounded the church. Aside from a corner on the roof that had been knocked askew and a tree in the courtyard that had been severed from falling debris ... everything about the church was perfect. Everything else was gone.
