Ah... I was misled by your note 'new visitor'. As you likely know, Mithrandir first came to Middle Earth in the year 1000 of the Third Age; he landed at the Grey Havens {Mithlond} where Círdan, perhaps the oldest Elf in Middle Earth, surrendered one of the three rings of the elves - Narya: fire, feeling that the Gray Pilgrim might need some extra encouragement at times.

I dont thnk Amazon cares, its the Age the Rings were forged.
I think they picked this time period b/c LOTR audiences could relate, find familar names in the production.
So far Galadriel, Elrond, hobbits and maybe a familiar Wizard
in the plot - and of course that baddie we all love to hate, Sauron!
