I grew up in a college town, and as an adolescent, those college kids looked so mature and old.
Later I visited my parents, went to the campus - and those college kids looked as though they still had mother’s milk on their lips!
When in 1st or 2nd grade you steered clear of 5-6th graders
Then when you reached 5th grade yourself it was nice to have those little kids give you the right of way, but you’re still at a disadvantage in the pecking order.
Teenagers were the most to be feared by far and all little kids, 5th graders too were fair game to be tormented by them without mercy.
At least that was the reality of childhood for me!
