“ I must have fallen in a Well because paying 60k for a car is not something I could ever do.”
The Ford Mach e I purchased over a year ago had a sticker of $48K, less a $7,500 tax rebate. The “Ford Option” financing has 3 years of lower-than-a-lease monthly payments and if I want to I can hand over the key (yeah, just one) in 2 more years and walk away. I also own a business and since I use the vehicle for work I have additional tax savings.
My previous commuter vehicle, a Grand Cherokee with an 8 cylinder Hemi, would eat $60 to $75 per week with current gas prices. My EV costs me maybe $5 or $6 a week in AC. I just had my 10,000 mile service and my total expenses were rotating the tires twice and an inspection sticker…no emissions sticker required.
The EV is helping my Jeep live longer. I use it for long trips & towing a small trailer…neither of which is smart with an EV.
But it’s not for everybody.
Thinking of getting one myself. I like the Mach e, and the Tesla. When I worked in L.A. back in 2019 / 2020 folks I spoke to that had EV’s mentioned the savings on their electric bill vs @ $4.85 a gallon of gas. Ill most likely keep a ICE vehicle so I can make back in forth from Detroit to Memphis in one day :)
My weekly travels takes me hundreds of miles through rural areas where in about half the area don’t even have a cell phone signal. No way I could ever use a ‘current technology’ EV.
