What do you think was the reasoning behind the assassination attempt if you don’t believe Bannon’s assessment?

What I do not believe is that Bannon knows for a fact it was a assassination and the CIA/Ukraine was involved. Bannon has never been in a a position to know. Killing Dugikn would accomplish nothing and only give away that someone could assassinate targets in Moscow.

For all we know, it was a car accident and the internet and twitter are exaggerating to the worst possible case with no evidence.

If it was an assassination attempt on Dugin, than he was the target. Except if that was the case, then "switching cars" with his daughter would have deliberately put her at risk, and that doesn't make sense. Someone trying to avoid assassination is not going to use their children as decoys.

So for now, a car accident plus the internet exaggerating and going with it is more likely the case right now.
