I think the odds two companies at random would share the same registering agent is curious, nothing impossible but curious.

Probably just the lawyer. An agent for a corporation is namely solely for the purpose of a good mailing address. Not uncommon for lawyers to be agents for more than one corp. Also could be a group of lawyers sharing office space.
