Speaking of that, did you see that the Spanish Stonehenge has emerged from the water due to drought. (But I thought “Climate Change(TM)” was going to cause sea levels to RISE?)
but anywho… I realized that I had the dog’s name wrong. He was Anubis, god of the dead, and I think Osiris was also a god of the afterlife, but also of fertility.
I looked again at this image of Anubis preparing a mummy… I used this image in a college project I did. I think it was my final History of Art class. I recreated this painting in a huge fabric wall hanging…using patterned fabrics for the backgrounds and then Painted the scene on top of it. The final size was about 8’x7’. We all had to display our projects in the front gallery hallway space, so after I got it pinned to the wall, I went inside the auditorium (one of those classes with about 150 students in it) and took my seat. A few minutes later, my professor (who was kind of a strange German guy) came running into the room and shouted, “WHO did zat MAGNIFIZENT TAPEZTRY??!” and everybody turned and looked at me. It was kind of funny because he was really bowled over by it. But looking at it now, I realized the head of the bench the mummy is laying on has a lion’s head on it. I had forgotten that:
Anubis the jackal-headed is one of the coolest-looking of the Egyptian gods, IMHO.
That’s an amazing work of art!
