I have read the novel Bambi but never saw the Disney version (made possible by Whittaker Chambers translating Felix Salten's novel into English). I suppose the cartoon version creates a greater emotional impact. I have eaten venison maybe once or twice in my life but don't remember what I thought of the taste. The poor people in North Idaho are sparing deer from starving to death in the winter.

Come to think of it, I did eat venison once. A friend in SoCal had a dad in Michigan who liked to hunt. Sent frozen venison to him with instructions on how to cook it. A long time ago, but I think you had to marinate it in something for 24 hours before cooking it on the barbecue grill. Not bad. Without the marinade, I think it would have tasted terrible.
