Dogs eating salmon! Oh no! We were just at Costco and I had to walk past the salmon. Out of my budget right now.
There is no Costco on the island. There are about 675 commercial fishing vessels that call this town Home Port and two processing plants. All kinds of North Pacific seafoods are plentiful.
Then there is the Tongass, providing spruce tips in the spring, blueberries, raspberries, salmon berries, black berries, several varieties of mushrooms and more in the summer. Just take a walk in the woods or along the shoreline to harvest edible wild things.
I won't start on hunting and sport fishing.
The down side is that fresh veggies, dairy and the packaged, processed foods that most people mainly live on are often in short supply because they must be imported by barge or air. Of course, these things are probably much more expensive than what you are used to.
