I lived on a mile wide river, had a motor boat and a sailboat. Every Sunday afternoon in the summer I raced our sailboat with my dad. A 25' sailboat makes a great dating machine.

My first real job came after my junior year in HS with a boat company. I got paid $1.85 ($13.11 in 2022 $) an hour in 1972 to run a motor boat around said river as a boat tester. I had a college guy as my nominal partner and 'supervisor'. All our gas was provided. We were allowed 5 minutes an hour to swim. If a thunderstorm blew up we could tie up at either of our parents houses and still got paid.
