Trump Standing order: Anything brought home was Declassified!
Hannity on Fox News

Posted on 08/13/2022 4:47:16 PM PDT by Patriot STL

Video: https://youtu.be/LR1QzNp4ZfA

President Trump had a standing order during his tenure at the White House, that anything he brought home with him was to automatically be considered declassified!

There is no higher authority than the President on classified material. It is non-sensical to think that an FBI agent or Archivist can override the President.

When I first saw the reply, I thought I might have typo’d Columbian. But yeah, Columbia SSBN. Like the B-21, not commissioned yet.

Such a policy paints Trump as a clown that would declassify national secrets just for his personal convenience. What's the next claim, a standing order that documents were automatically reclassified as soon as he returned them?

The authority vested with the president to declassify and reclassify documents is absolute.

We can actually thank Obama for his 2009 executive order that clarified procedures for classifying and declassifying documents while also underlining the president's absolute authority on this matter.

Trump did not repeal this executive order and, so far, neither has Biden.

You need to rethink the difference between a classification authority versus an officer. You do not seem to understand it.

The Left have been trying criminalize their own actions but only when Trump does same.

They want to criminalize his Autonomic Respiration and will do whatever they must to bring it to a cessation.

It’s the Zapruder film in 4kHD, 21st Century style.

If the president wants them declassified than its declassified.
+++++
That is true but there is still a process. You have to mark the document as declassified and add a date and a signature. And you have to remark all existing classified copies of that document as unclassified in the same way. All classified documents are numbered. If one turns up in the wrong place unprotected security will know whose copy it is. All of these need to marked unclassified.

I really hope that Trump does not think declassification is just a wave of the hand by an outgoing President. It is more than that.

I held a TS/SCI clearance for almost 30 years, so I understand the subject better than your average Freeper.

Ah, but were you a president that declassified things for thirty years?

And, was it reclassified when it went downstairs? How about when it left the White House. I understand he has the “right” to do it. So, if he takes it upstairs, he could give it to someone when they left the White House? Or was it still a secured document?

As you well know, classification depends entirely on altitude over sea level. Things in a basement are much more unclassified than things in an attic.

Mar-El-Lago is at sea level. Totally unclassified.

If they charge President Trump under the Espionage Act, I heard it doesn’t matter if the documents were classified or not. The classified/unclassified argument is just to tarnish PDJT’s judgment and make him look capricious.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous claims I've heard yet.

What's so ridiculous about it? Trump said anything he touched was declassified once it came with him out the front door. I'm sure there's a note to that effect somewhere, or can be.

That's how it works. You take the standing order, move the documents, because why not? He's the President. You can reclassify if needed. It's just common sense.

I held such a clearance too. You are misunderstanding the difference between authority and officer.

The authority decides what is classified. The officer enforces the rules for the classification.

As President, Trump can do pretty much what he wants. Congressional laws cannot change his authority to declassified. Once declassified, the officer only enforces the rules for unclassified info.

The process to publish declassified info is downstream from the declassification.

You were a classification officer, not an authority.

I am not misunderstanding anything, nor questioning Trump’s authority to declassify. The idea that Trump would issue an oral standing order that anything he removes from the White House is automatically declassified is ridiculous. If that’s his defense, it might not hold water in court. I don’t think Trump is that foolish.
