That would certainly undercut her as a feminist icon. This is similar to gay groups posthumously claiming anybody who wasn’t 100% proven heterosexual, but it also runs up against mid-20th century feminist thinking that shouldn’t be confined to a narrow stereotype. If women who show strength of character or willpower are nonbinary, it doesn’t do much for the movement.
They have brought back stereotypes with a vengeance.
A strong independent woman in history now must be a man.
A little boy who likes to bake cookies must really be female. A little girl who plays with trucks must be a male.
