Assuming this story is accurately reported I have absolutely no problem with it.Human beings...*ALL* human beings...are hard wired to prefer their own kind.That's why the residents of my quite affluent,*very* "progressive",lily white suburban town went ballistic when an "affordable housing" complex was proposed for the town and that's why Mexicans don't like gringos in their neighborhood.
"Diversity" goes against basic human nature...whether it's Norfolk County,Massachusetts....Mexico City...or Kinshasa.

Except in your case the newcomers were lowering the standard of the neighborhood. Most likely the Americans moving into these Mexican areas are improving area.
