Cannot compare the two situations. By the same argument, any conservative (for want of a better word) who succeeds is compromoised.

You’re making my point about DeSantis having it a lot easier than Trump. But how exactly did DeSantis happen upon such an easy situation? It’s true that Florida is a state that leans conservative, but it’s also a state with enough Democrat leanings and Democrat cheating (e.g. Broward County) to elect Obama twice. It’s amazing how quickly DeSanti was able to get the Democrat machine in Broward country to roll over. I’ve never seen the Dems give up so easily.
The Dems were able to cheat enough in 2020 that they didn’t need Florida’s electoral votes. Allowing a controlled MAGA candidate to ascend to the Governorship of Florida is a small price to pay to achieve the paramount goal of the Deep State - preventing Trump regaining the Presidency.

For the most part, yes, although there are exceptions. Kari Lake’s campaign seems to be that rare exception - a true grass roots Governor campaign that succeeded at least on the primary level, but she had to fight like hell just to win the primary and whether she’s able to win the general election still remains to be seen.
Of course there have been others on the state and Congressional level who have been able to get elected without compromise. But the DS can’t fight for every state office or Congressional seat, and they don’t need to. They just need to control enough to control the agenda.
But when it comes to more powerful offices like Governor, Senator and President, it’s almost impossible to win without Establishment backing.
