We are quarter mile from town recycle center - you cant dump just anything there but stuff like glass, plastic jugs or shipping materials, cardboard boxes or paper waste they’ll accept. No Styrofoam.

Helps a lot to have more space in the weekly “pickup” garbage cans

I really don’t even know if my town actually has a recycle center.

Ok, they do, but they don’t do a very good job of getting the word out as to what they’ll take, etc. When I get ambitious, I but both cans out at the curb. They’re big, I think 40 gallon, plastic ones with the wheels.

The problem is bulkier items. For example, they won’t take tires, water heaters, large or small appliances (unless you can hide it in the bags with the rest of the trash). I have a computer that I’d love to get rid of, but I have to either disassemble it like I did the last one, or just put it out and hope some enterprising garbage picker will see value in it. The city will pick up bulk items for free, up to 2 times a year, so all is not lost.
