When President Donald Trump takes the stage at a major conservative conference in Dallas on Saturday he will likely have just received a boost to his 2024 plans in the form of a straw poll that will almost certainly rank him as the clear favorite among attendees.
But that is not the end of the story as far as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, whose star has been on the rise this year.
Attendees at the Conservative Political Action Conference want him first to continue the work he is doing in Florida before taking up the national MAGA torch in the 2028 election.

No. It's highly likely Biden didn't. But aside from the fraud, did he get enough votes to put him over the top anyway? Trump left a lot of wreckage in his wake. He fired up not only the left, but also independents to vote for anything that wasn't Trump.
Trump did a lot of great things, but he also did a lot of stupid things. Trump's greatest enemy wasn't the left -- it was himself. His actions created giant holes for the left to capitalize upon. Worse, his abysmal talent selection aided in the constant turmoil that got in the way of other more important progress -- like the destruction of the Deep State.
Has Trump learned from his mistakes? Maybe. Unfortunately, I'm not so convinced he has.
But again -- in the face of unabated corruption, election fraud, and simple hatred -- what makes you think the left couldn't do again what they did this time around?
If Trump couldn't win after Trump, what makes you think DeSantis could?
So people who are supporting Ron DeSantis, the best governor in the country right now, are trolls?
Agree. Trump doesn’t give us our best chance of winning, and winning should be our top priority. As much as it hurts to face it, it becoming very clear that the left is not going to let Trump back in the WH. They will do whatever it takes to keep him out. He sets their hair on fire - nobody energizes the left like Trump. The fraud they committed in the battleground states in 2020 is nothing compared to what they are willing to do between now and 2024 to keep Trump out of the WH. Putting him on trial in criminal court is just one of many steps they will take. And they will get away with it because the media is complicit in this effort. And the Republican establishment will not come to his defense.
Our conservative base will stand behind Trump for sure. But those beyond the base are a different story, and the left knows that Trump will need more than his base to get reelected. The left, helped in large part by the media, are also “Palin-izing” Trump at every turn. And it seems to be working.
Unfortunately Trump’s actions too often play into their hands. A lot of people beyond the our base are tired of the drama. They are not interested in rehashing what happened in 2020 - they often about Trump’s “unproven” and “unsubstantiated” election fraud claims, as the media alway puts it (even conservative media) - and they are not interested in vendettas.
The left will go after DeSantis if he runs, but not with the same emotional hatred they have for Trump. They will be happy that they successfully kept Trump out of the WH.
The destruction of the Deep State is going to take years. But the bottom line is, nobody other than Trump could get that ball rolling, you think they weren't going to strike back?

The demonrats are going to fight to the death (your’s and mine) to keep any of that from happening in 8 years, much less 4. It took far too long to get to this point to correct it in less than 15 years even WITHOUT OPPOSITION.

And Trump was praising other states and their governors for opening back up. At the same time.
If you’re going to allude to a certain Politico screed, then at least go past the headline.

I guess we'll just wait until Tuesday, November 5, 2024 and hope for the best.
FWIW, I've spoken to people who've voted for Trump in 2016 but were turned off by his antics in 2020. I know it's anecdotal in my case but it's likely we will see a repeat of that in 2024 unless Trump is able to persuade those independent voters to support him once again.
