Breaking laws in Russia....

Amazing how arrogant some people are.

In the mid-1970s I knew a girl at work whose fellow Russian language majors at Michigan State University had exchange trips between their Russian counterparts and the Americans. The year after hers an American young man thought it was hilariously funny while in Russia to paint upturned black moustaches on several banner pictures of Lenin on the buildings and poles along the streets.

The Soviets did not have any sense of humor about it, put him in jail and set up a trial which could have imprisoned him. It took months of US State Department and university negotiations to finally get him freed to return without serving further time.
