Earth in the Balance in 1992, because I remember the child I took with me and his age at the time. It was at Borders Books in Philly on Walnut Street near Rittenhouse Square.
I don't give Algore a lot of thought; but I'll never forget the sight of that white dent around his finger up close, and then watching him schmooze the girls afterward. That he wasn't formally separated really grossed me out.

Got it. I was confused when you said "A few weeks later he announced for President."
Gore ran for president in the 1988 DNC primary, and declined to run in the 1992 primary. He didn't run again until 2000.
He did accept Bill Clinton's offer to run for VP in 1992.
