NFL's newest fashion trend: Increasing number of players are wearing Guardian Caps - a soft-shell helmet cover that claims to reduce the force of hits by up to 20 percent - as league works to cut training camp head injuries

This week's opening of NFL training camps has revealed a new league-wide fashion trend: The Guardian Cap.

The waffled helmet covering creates a soft-shell layer that can significantly reduce the impact of helmet-to-helmet hits, according to the company.

The Guardian Cap, which closely resembles rugby's scrum cap, was adopted during the annual league meetings in March as part of the NFL's ongoing effort to reduce head trauma during practices.

According to the league, the cap can reduce the force of head contact by 10 percent when worn by one player, and by 20 percent if every player involved in a collision has one covering their helmet.

Players at certain positions deemed to be at greater risk are required to wear the caps between the start of training camp and the second preseason game, when concussion rates typically spike. Those players include offensive and defensive lineman, right ends, and linebackers.

They will probably make helmets with a slightly reduced profile and softer outer coating....no ridges....will cut down on broken fingers from hitting the helmet. But really, who cares....I can always watch bumper cars if I want to see collisions. Bring back demolition derby....

The brain damage doesn’t typically show up for years. I’ll withhold judgment.

By age 50 the average NFL five year player has the mentality of a 90 year old. All those hits to the head in high school, college and the pros wreck the brain. Herschl Walker is an embarassment as a Senate candidate and the result is that a vile marxist will remain in the US Senate for six more years harming the American nation and its people.

Get rid of the helmets. People won’t be sticking their heads where they shouldn’t or relying on the protection that may not be there.

In college I played football rugby and soccer. It can be done.

You really believe this dying Republic will exist six years from the mid-term elections? By 2029 there will be no use of a Seante or Congress as a legislative body.

In high school, I was the manager. Football, wrestling, lacrosse. No brain impact. No oxygen deprivation.

Fifty years later, the high school studs I managed are getting joint replacements and, well, they’re getting senile. My joints are good, my brain is fine. I still know most of the kids I went to high school with. It is clear that the nerds are healthy, and the athletes are sick, or dead.

If the vile marxist gets back in, it will be due to the absolute stupidity of voters in Georgia.

Some are calling for soft helmets to get rid of the problem. That will certainly stop players from using their heads for spear points. That hard helmet was meant to prevent the occasional head injury but turned out to enable many massive head injuries.
