Elon Musk will probably have a working moon base up and running way before NASA gets there. Starship is so big that it’s payload to the moon is in the neighborhood of 100 tons.
Musk also owns the “Boring Company” which uses big machines to build tunnels. Starship will get them there. The Boring Company also involved with “Hyperloop”.
Hyperloop vehicles operate at the speed of sound in tunnels that have had all the air removed to eliminate friction. This is not without hazards as the loss of the vacuum would almost instantly stop the monument of the capsule with the passenger’s bodies continuing on till they hit the front wall and turn into pink mist. Using the lunar vacuum eliminates that problem as well as having to build the network of giant vacuum pumps for a terrestrial system.
Me thinks Elon is thinking big. Lots of underground Moon bases scattered all over the Lunar surface linked by an underground Hyperloop.
I’m the same age as you, and I totally agree, so much money has been wasted by democrats and RINOS over the years. Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos are the new pioneers showing what the private sector is fully capable of.
