The murder investigation included records of Italian social clubs, draft cards, and Ellis Island immigration logs.

For decades, it seemed that Lindy Sue Biechler’s killer would never be found.

The 19-year-old newlywed’s stabbing death in her Lancaster County apartment in 1975 had stunned her community and shattered her family. As years passed, police kept working the case, slowly eliminating suspects as technology improved.

I have seen several programs during the last few years about the work of CeCe Moore, a genetic genealogist from Parabon Nanolabs. She has performed fascinating work and is likely behind cases many have heard about where a criminal has been traced through familia DNA. She is a pioneer in that research - combining DNA research with good old fashioned detective work to narrow down the scope of the suspect pool. Going back 3 or 4 generations can create a pretty large pool of people so a lot of leg work is required. Also some questions about privacy since at times, the criminal is traced through an innocent relative whose DNA provided the linkage.
