I think measurements are relative, so we can tell what is moving, in which direction, and how they are relative to items closer (in front of) other items.
There are also lengths of waves, Doppler issues, and gravitational metrics that can be used to get pretty decent assessments of distance.
So….there is a bit more science involved than wild assed guesses.
Could one tell one where one is or us (if preferred) location wise in relation to the initial beginning ? If not and point is unknown all else in recognition of any other point remains an unknown (imho)
