Dan Altman is not too bright and not too knowledgeable. First of all Ukraine has already been getting airplanes. They got 20 from the Czech Republic (though supposedly in parts that Ukraine could put together...:-) Who knows how they arrived, but Ukraine has been using them and Russia has been shooting them down every day.
And of course Ukraine set up that eventful meeting between its air force and its foreign aviation suppliers. They had big plans for the fall. There are some very detailed pics on the internet of the area they met in...it was easy to see why no one survived. BTW, they announced the death of the third Air Force Colonel today. They believe it could take years to recover their top ranking officer losses and, of course, as far as aviation suppliers are concerned...”Miss Otis regrets that she is unable to accept your kind invitation to your next gathering”...:-)
None of this may impress Mr. Altman (of course he wrote his article before this) but it sure did put the fear of God into the Pentagon and Ukrainian officials. U.S. Embassies closed, mayors leaving cities. Officials deciding Ukraine “is no longer safe.” Guess we won’t see any more of those EU visits to “kiss the ring”...:-)
No, I don’t think further escalation would serve Ukraine well. In other words what Ukraine had been doing up to this point clearly triggered Russia and they have now attempted 3 missile attacks at “decision makers” (one failed.)
But, Zelensky announced this 3 hrs. ago “Ukraine’s defense minister gets ‘very good news’ in conversation with US counterpart. Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov said that on July 18 U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin gave him “some very good news” that he will reveal soon.”
