“The man whose name NASA has chosen to bestow upon the successor to the Hubble Space Telescope is most commonly linked to the Apollo moon program, not to science.””
Only an idiot liberal would claim Apollo was not science.
When he was asked by JFK to run NASA he told JFK that he wasn’t going to “just” have NASA go to the moon for political reasons (Sputnik), but would have lots of science too. It sounded like Webb was behind the push for Voyager, etc.
He was a business man and also had a role in some Federal government position, but he was not a scientist, and thought that a scientist should be in charge. Sure sounds like JFK made the right choice in this guy.
Reminds me a bit of in WWII with FDR tasking the president(?) of General Motors to run the show on mass producing airplanes.
