Lee Marvin, who was on the beach at Normandy, said that the bravest man he ever saw was Marine Sergeant Robert Keeshan, who was best known as Captain Kangaroo.

I went back in my kiddie days and picked a couple of seemingly innocuous CBS employees to make the point it wasnt intentionaly defamatory just more like “who do we really know was a sheep or a wolf in the TV land?

Lee Marvin saw combat in the Pacific, particularly on Saipan, though I'm not sure where Bob Keeshan was at.

That never happened and U.S. Marines were invisible in Europe. They fought in the pacific.
lee marvin was injured in the battle of saipan.
The Cpt. never went overseas. he was still state-side at the end of the war with japan.

I believe that Lee Marvin was in the USMC, in the Pacific Theater (not Normandy). In Jun-Jul 1944 he was in the battle of Saipan, wounded, then discharged (medically) in 1945.

Contrary to “served with Bob Keeshan” at Normandy, or at Iwo Jima, etc.”, didn’t happen.

Keeshan WAS in the Marine Corps reserve, but didn’t get out of High school (1945) until around the time Mr. Marvin was discharged, and Mr. Keeshan had not left stateside when Japan surrendered in August of 1945.
