The Sun rotates and the Earth is revolving around the Sun. Any sunspot pointed at Earth would only being doing so for a relatively short amount of time I would think.
That's very true, but look at a current image of the sun for today, June 30. There are NO candidate sunspots anywhere near the general central portion of the sun that could cause the calamity described in the article.
