Cook elbow macaroni

make a roux: a thickening agent made of one part fat and one part flour. melt butter in a saucepan, Add flour, and stir until smooth. Slowly pour in water and stir until the mixture is smooth and bubbling.

Add cheese and macaroni!

I do a similar version, only I use milk (or, half and half), instead of water.
