No. To quote Roberto Goizueta the then-CEO of Coca-Cola responding to suggestions that he brought out "New Coke" to drum up love for a triumphant return of "Coke Classic",

We aren't that smart, and we aren't that stupid.

Besides that, the inclination is to be honorable and law abiding.

The argument that New Coke was created to drum up more interest for old Coke was first made by Sergio Zyman, who was in charge of marketing in the mid-80s, who used it as an argument to justify his failed tenure in the press.

If he made it, he was bs-ing. You don't play that level of high stakes bingo with an iconic brand to pull a couple of points from a competitor who was neck and neck in the supermarkets, but miles behind in restaurants and services venues. I wouldn't believe a man who pulled this in the first place.

If McDonald's got wind of that, for instance, they would have been FURIOUS, as now you are playing with THEIR business. The independent bottlers and distributors also wouldn't be on board. Coca-Cola, Inc. had no idea what was coming, and the company tried desperate ad campaigns to push "new" Coke, spending way too much money for this to be a stunt. Goizueta, who RAN THE COMPANY, drank new Coke to his early end, which is part of the reason it stuck around as long as it did.

Nothing that wouldn’t have happened in Venezuela or any other corrupt banana republic third world s-—hole garbage dump.
