“the American Board of Internal Medicine

Thugs likely on the Big Pharma payroll

They also fleece any and all board certified doctors several hundred a year so they can keep their certification (which has never been shown to provide higher quality of care)....most insurance companies and big hospitals will not allow doctors who are not certified by the ABIM.

...board certified...

I used to believe in Board Certifications and accepted the label *evidence based*. Then my husband spent several years working on a State Massage Therapy Law and worked closely with the Massage Therapy Board (s) (There are competing exams/certifications & a small industry of CEU providers).

Thu Board Certifications are money-making enterprises. The entire project was also really turf-guarding. The private Boards & their exams were not overseen nor enforced by most of the State Departments responsible (some, like Florida, did a good job). They were insistent upon paying fees and fines, however.

I’ve watched a couple of good MDs hauled before State Medical Boards by patients (and their families) looking for huge insurance-paid settlements. In one instance, I also worked on a client engaged in just such a lawsuit and for a fact knew the client was being run by the mother and the money was the sole object.

I’ve been retired from massage for 17 years and my husband for 5, but I cannot imagine anything has improved.

The concept of “evidence-based” practice is still valid, but the definition is narrowed constantly until it becomes “expert based” and “authoritarian”.

It is a lot like an HOA, actually.
