Do native Americans really want their legacy to outlawed. Schools choose mascots to reflect bravery and courage. Now they are forced to remove Indian tribes and replace them with furry animals or reptiles.
“defy the state law which bars schools with Native American mascots from receiving tribal funding”
If they are receiving tribal funding then obviously the tribe likes being honored as a school mascot. Why does the left want to cancel Native Americans?
The school chose a Native American mascot because they were not wimps.
They do not have Native American mascots. They have mascots with names that remind one of Native American culture.
Racial Discrimination - there are Federal laws against such things.
It’s good to see where there is respect for the school name and culture will exist and respect for Indian school names will continue.
My high school in CT caved fast to get rid of their Indian name. I never saw any of derogatory claims that supposed took place. However it may have been in the Nineteen thirties to the sixties that happened. Even so the Indian name seemed to be respected my town wham I was there but now it’s a generic name and mascot that I see across the country.
The name changed but I will assume the scrappy nature of the school will continue. The kids there always seem to punch in a higher weight class than the size of the school.
Keep the names, if only in tribute to the casinos that bring in the moolah.
Anderson High School in Indiana just voted to keep their Indian mascot (There’s no law to remove them in INDIANA - but there had been social justice pressure to do so) - the reason being that Anderson Indiana is named to honor an indian chief and the mascot is that indian chief so removing the ‘mascot’ is actually a dishonor to the point of naming the town.
Indian teams should be called The Pipeline Busters 🤪
All through my younger years, kids and adults wanted to be American Indian (AI), or pretend they were. In other forums, in discussions about consumer DNA test results, people would express disappointment they had no evidence of AI heritage in their DNA ethnicity results.
Liberals say diversity is our strength.
Delaware Avenue in Philadelphia was under threat of having it’s name changed to Columbus Boulevard. The Delaware Injuns just about rose up over the though that their name would be replaced with that of the most evil white dude ever. Little did they know:
“Thomas West, 3rd Baron De La Warr is often named simply as “Lord Delaware”. He served as governor of the Jamestown Colony in Virginia, and Delaware Bay was named after him. The state of Delaware, the Delaware River, and the Delaware Indian tribe were so called after the bay, and thus ultimately derive their names from the barony. Many other American counties, townships, and the like derive their names directly or indirectly from this connection.”
The woke brigade is swiftly expunging any reference or image of Indian culture. If it was a program to deliberately destroy it, I can’t imagine the effect would be any different.
Hi ho, Silver!
The “offended” are probably the same four or five people that all took the same “studies” class in college and discovered the power of being perpetually offended. The same types who say “Latinx.”
It would solve the stigma of competing names and any hostilities that might be assigned to them...
that way Sports reporters could just refer to the city name...
as in Los Angeles lost an overtime thriller against D.C...however LA Cuck Lebron James scored all the points for the LA Cuck team...../s
Why make it so tough. Just ask the schools to have the mascot identify as a rabbit, or a dove, or anything they want. And if the government doesn’t like that then they can change the costume and have the new character identify with the original Indian name so it may be a rabbit identifying as warrior. It isn’t that difficult. And it is no longer a warrior that way.

This seems like an attempt to wipe out traces of our native American heritage.
Unbelievable!
How do you define "N.A. mascot?"
What if the mascots are "The Warriors?"
Is that enough to qualify as "Native American?"
What if the mascots wear "frontier-sy" garb (leather jacket with frills, etc.)? What if they have straight, jet-black hair? At what point does a mascot "cross the line" and become a "N.A. mascot?"
Conversely: What if the school's sports team is called "The Palefaces?"
