As you probably know, the problem was that Oliver Cromwell’s successor was his weak son, Richard. Oliver Cromwell fought to get rid of a hereditary monarchy, and that’s what Cromwell’s followers tried to establish anyway.

The father made a major mistake in not establishing a better system to transfer power.

Yes, just think—if they would only abolish their monarchy, they could have free and fair elections to select wonderful leaders like we have! (eye roll)
