All kidding aside buried propane tanks are quite common, I have one for example.
They are buried with a large ‘bag’ which is a sacrificial anode.
I’d say of the 40 houses in my subdivision there are at least 30 buried propane tanks.
Most above ground residential propane tanks here are leased - this means the tank can only be filled by the company you lease the tank from.
A buried tank is a tank that the home owner purchased and the home owner is free to purchase propane from any vendor.

I’ve seen them in the 1,000 gallon size but not 2500.
