I know I'm typecasting Leslie Nielsen. I wait for him to say "Don't call me Shirley".
It’s a loosely based retelling of Shakespeare’s “The Tempest” through a SciFi lens.
And The Tempest is a retelling of the relief expedition sent to Jamestown. It wrecked due to a hurricane on the until then undiscovered Bermuda.
Still a personal favorite. It doesn’t hurt seeing a young and gorgeous Ann Francis, but the story carries the day.
Great movie. I think I will pull out the DVD and watch it again tonight.
It is a simple morality tale, common to the 1950s, which is long before the moral decay of 1970s audiences that would tolerate anti-heroes. it is a simple good vs. evil story, with it all taking place in the mind of one man.
Each of us is capable or good and evil, even subconciously. We need to guard against our subconsious temptations.
It is especially meaningful today as our technology continues to rapidly outpace our moral decline.
