Justices Thomas and Barrett joined their liberal colleagues in the case on Medicare payments to hospitals.
...The line up again challenges the narrative that this Court is hopelessly and dysfunctionally divided along ideological lines. We will see those divisions in some of the remaining cases but most cases do not reflect such rigidity.
...Notably, if Thomas was the most senior justice in the conference after that the argument, this means that he would have assigned it to his liberal colleague to write the opinion for the Court.
