At the age of 40, with a zero credit score and a 40k job I couldn’t get a credit card or a loan.

I don’t buy it. Nor do I buy that an 18 y/o saved his burger-flipping wages over the course of more than a year to fulfill a plan about which nobody had a clue.

It is very easy for an 18-year-old with no history to get a credit card. The system works differently at that age. Credit card companies love to give credit to young fools with long futures.

How do they do this while technically not discriminating based on age? It’s called a student card. You CAN require the person to be enrolled in a school to qualify. Boom. The very few older students with no history that might apply are easily outweighed by the millions of young fools that get one.

Cc companies are flooding the mail with unsecured applications. Once you start working, your information is sold to the banks.
