9 is the scrum half, or quarterback of the team. But, no forward passing. He puts the ball into the scrum, where the hooker heels or hooks the ball backwards so his team can possess the ball. The hooker is the number 2.
I was reading up a bit on rugby on Wiki last night.
It is surprisingly much more organized than I had thought from watching a few games back in college 40 years ago! Interesting how the game evolved. It sounded like there were the guys in the scrum with a few guys behind them to act as defense/goal tenders.
Then they realized that the rules didn’t prevent the tenders from playing offense, so they started adding more offense into the tenders (now called backs).
I guess it is like a lot of sports, until one learns the rules it is just a bunch of folks running around with a ball, a puck, etc.
Hmm. What sport is the most confusing to watch?
What sport has the most rules?
I’m guessing golf might be the one with the most rules.
