So far, there’s no evidence that he was a transvestite or a transgender. The photo of the guy in a skirt was someone else.
In an earlier photo of him, he had a slightly chubby face, but in his last photo, his face looked gaunt in comparison. He had either shed his baby fat naturally or drugs might’ve done a number on him.

In the real photos, he’s got that emo look, especially the haircut. Together with cutting himself and reports he was being ridiculed for wearing eyeliner, he may have got into emo. Emo kids often go for an androgynous look, boys and girls both sporting that same haircut he had, boys wearing eyeliner and more feminine clothing, girls dressing “tomboy” style.
I thought emo had long gone out of style, but an internet search shows it’s back. Ugh.
It’s possible he gravitated to to the emo scene on the internet looking for a niche group to belong to, or in an effort to be “cool” somehow. His sickness fit in with sick emo practices and fads. The cutting is a sign of serious mental problems, but it somehow got to be a fad among emo kids. In his case, it obviously was a symptom of serious mental issues.
Did he graduate to transgender? That, we really don’t know.
