Her’s a thought. A jury of one’s peers? Doesn’t a cross section of the American citizenry represent a jury of one’s peers as much as a D.C. jury? Do you think Sussman would give most of those jurors the time of day? Not likely. A narrow definition of a trial by one’s peers would mean Sussman should be judged by a jury of elitist swamp rats like himself.
This was a Federal trial. A jury of Sussman’s peers should rightly represent a cross section of America, not a jury pool made up exclusively of D.C. residents.
Sussman was charged in Federal court. His crime was against the American people and the jurisdiction is the United States, not Wasshington D.C.
