Damn, this sucks. Having said that, the question arises as to where we go from here. Here’s some unlikely hopium but I might as well just throw it out there to get it out of the way. Perhaps evidence of jury tampering will come out shortly, causing the proceedings to be declared a mistrial. Yeah, I know, extremely unlikely, but damn, that jury came back fast. Even with the Hillary donors on the jury, you’d think at least one or two would do the right thing. I was expecting at least a hung jury.
Aside from that, I think Durham could have pushed a little harder on getting some of those jurors disqualified. The fact that he didn’t push harder was either an error on his part or an acknowledgement that it really didn’t matter. On the other hand, maybe Sussman’s acquittal will be used by Durham to argue for venue changes in future trials.
Another point worth mentioning is that Durham mentioned in some of his court filings, that Sussman was still being investigated for other possible charges. If Sussman lied to the FBI, not to fool them but to give them cover so they could claim “We didn’t know this came from the Clinton campaign”, then Sussman is guilty of much worse than lying to the FBI. He’s a co-conspirator. In the mean time, a lot of good testimony came from this trial. This is testimony under oath which can now be used as evidence in future trials.
So the plan takes another unpleasant turn. Hopefully it’s strong enough to withstand this acquittal of Sussman.
