From the major reading I’ve been doing, yes, he won a seat on the City Council on May 7th. Nowhere does it mention that he’ll be resigning as Chief of the school district’s police force (7 schools, 6 officers). Well, as haps may be, he’ll probably be retiring shortly, “to spend more time with family) /snort! Usually, a seat on a city council is not a full-time job.
I am not defending this jerk at all. I just like to wait until the smoke clears and then gather the facts.
Naturally, people want to blame someone. Usually it’s not so easy to place blame. Usually, but NOT THIS TIME!! This time, the blame can be placed equally sqarely on the head of the police chief who mistakenly (and we’re wondering now if he even had a radio...no radio, no comms with Dispatch, no idea what’s really going on inside those classrooms) converted the “active shooter” response to a “barricaded suspect” scenario.
And sharing just as much, if not even more, on the head of the teacher who left the door unlocked so the shooter could get into the school. A school’s security plan is only as good as its participants. Sure, you put the door with the fancy locks on..but when you leave the door open, the system fails.
I don’t waste my grace points -in this case, they’d be demerits-I would lose so many bushel baskets of grace if I joined in the calls for horrid things to happen to these 2 people. All the ill-wishes and hate we dump on those 2 will never come close to the guilt they heap upon themselves. Every day, they’ll have to face themselves in the mirror. I suggest they both be fired, denied unemployment, required mental health care (which TX is providing to anyone in that community, free, 24-7) and then be put on suicide watch...FOR LIFE.
So, just thought I would clear that up. The chief had the incident command position because it was his school, he was the boss of the situation. So glad the Border Patrol guys said F&*k that and disobeyed his orders.

I just read your entire comment... so there are two chiefs, the Chief of the School District police force, and the Police Chief of the Uvaldi city police.
Which cops were at the school, then? Since there were more than 6, must have been the city police. So the Chief of the city police was in command? I never read that he changed the incident to a “barricaded subject”, I assume that info is now available. That is crazy, sounds like a fluster cluck of major proportions. Almost beyond belief, the parents knew what was happening.
Hmm, but now I R confused again:

There’s so much hysteria around that scene, and reactive emotions going off, triggering firing judgemental opinion than thinking.
We won’t know for sure of details, for some time.
And, if there really are dirty tricks at play, then fingers will all be pointed to some poor shlub and miss the bigger picture.
