ARIEL PHENOMENON DOCUMENTARY: A JOURNEY WORTH TAKING (famous 1994 mass UFO sighting by school children in Zimbabwe)

[In] “Ariel Phenomenon,” director Randall Nickerson looks at one of the most famous cases of the second type involving both craft and occupants: the 1994 mass sighting at the Ariel School in Zimbabwe, Africa. It is a portrayal of a potentially “alien” event, told from a decidedly human angle, including the powerful feelings such an event often leaves behind in those touched by the experience.

*snip*

Nickerson spends a significant amount of the film’s 100+ minute run time exploring the negative side of the Ariel School experience for many of the witnesses, particularly feelings of trauma. This includes students who witnessed the event, school staff who now often express regret at having not taken the children or their feelings serious enough at the time, and even a BBC reporter who risked his entire career to cover the sighting.

“I spoke with over forty past students and staff, but not all of them were willing to speak on camera about the experience,” Nickerson says [...] “That told me, as a director and a human, that there’s something here.”

“Once I got to Zimbabwe, three of the teachers who were there at the time of the event were still teaching at Ariel, and I was amazed that they were still convinced it had actually happened,” he adds. “I found the names of the children who were at the school that year, and at that moment it was like “Oh, I can find these people.” Facebook had just started really growing, and none of this could have happened without Facebook.”

“I started contacting the former students and teachers, as well as others who were in the region who’d seen things that week; there were a number of events reported during the days leading up to the Ariel sighting,”

Ayahuasca has some unusual characteristics which make “any” kind of hallucination possible.

(1) It is usually taken in groups and there are shared hallucinations.
(2) McKenna and others have argued that these hallucinations do not provide a reliable source of “new” data (as opposed to DMT and psilocybin).
(3) The reason is that ayahuasca taps into memories of the group and/or historical memories of previous takers of ayahuasca.
(4) Those group (or individual) memories are often of Jungian archtypes—and at this point in human history gray aliens fall into that category (along with flying saucers of course). The grays would be symbolic of the “other” or demons for folks raised as Christians. In the case of Amazonian tribes the archtype is most likely to be wild animals (like the jaguar) while westerners may be see flying saucers or gray aliens if they tap into western memory or wild animals if they tap into the Amazonian group (current or historical) memory.
(5) Ayahuasca can be thought of as a “historical” drug—so anything in human history can be part of a vision.

DMT and Psilocybin are where the visions are of the impossible, the unimagined, or possible high tech futures.

Help me out here.

Isn't DMT the main active ingredient in ayahuasca (the other being an MAOI that prevents the DMT from being metabolized in the gut)?

Correct—but the formulation in ayahuasca has radically different effects than pure DMT.

Pure DMT gives a very short trip (a few minutes) while Ayahuasca trips can last for hours and hours.

Btw—McKenna believed (and I agree) that a deep study of these drugs will yield incredible information about human consciousness—not just a materialistic discussion of chemical reactions in the brain—but a new understand of what human consciousness is and how it really works.

He was convinced the human brain (under DMT and psilocybin, but not Ayahuasca or LSD) could tap into “another dimension” or “the logos”, something “out there” beyond the reach of scientific measurement at this time.
